LOCATION: Remote

OVERVIEW
The Linux Systems Engineer will play a critical role in managing and enhancing the Linux infrastructure, with a focus on CentOS 7.2 and performing basic kernel modifications. You will also be involved in Python programming and server management, contributing to the organization of activities and driving Agile programming practices.

HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT

  • Manage and maintain Linux-based servers, particularly CentOS 7.2 (with migration to 7.8), ensuring the stability, security, and performance of our systems.
  • Perform basic kernel modifications to optimize system performance and support specific aerospace requirements.
  • Develop and maintain Python scripts and applications to automate tasks, improve system monitoring, and enhance server functionality.
  • Oversee server configuration, monitoring, and maintenance, ensuring high availability and reliability.
  • Drive Agile programming methodologies and practices, facilitating efficient development, continuous improvement, and rapid response to changing requirements.
  • Utilize your aerospace and Space Systems Engineering (SSE) experience to understand the unique challenges and requirements specific to the aerospace industry.
  • Collaborate with engineers and other stakeholders to capture and document project requirements and ensure alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation, including system configurations, procedures, and best practices.
  • Act as a bridge between engineering teams, helping to organize activities, improve communication, and ensure a smooth workflow.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Proven experience in Linux system administration, with expertise in CentOS and knowledge of CentOS 7.8
  • Proficiency in Python programming for scripting and automation
  • Experience with kernel modification and the ability to perform basic kernel changes
  • Agile programming experience and familiarity with Agile methodologies
  • Prior aerospace or Space Systems Engineering (SSE) experience
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to drive activities and projects to successful completion
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to bridge gaps between technical and non-technical teams
  • Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to meet project deadlines
  • Bachelor’s or higher degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
