The project: Business Intelligence & Reporting (BI&R)
The Business Intelligence & Reporting organization is responsible for the end-to-end delivery of programs to develop and maintain Client’s global business intelligence platforms. The team is geographically dispersed and comprises of all disciplines required to deliver IT solutions for our customers, including project managers, business analysts, application engineers, quality assurance & testers and implementation managers. In addition the function works closely with the Enterprise & Solution Architecture and Infrastructure & Operations teams.
Required Skills: A Junior BI Developer would have knowledge or experience in the following:
• Writing moderately complex T-SQL queries
• Use self contained objects in SSIS to construct medium to complex ETL process using high level requirements as inputs
• Understanding of SSIS best practices
• Experience scripting within SSIS packages
• Can troubleshoot SSIS packages with minimal assistance
• Should understand parent/child packages and be able to create packages and update processes
• Previous BI/DWH experience
• Application engineering experience including full life-cycle and functional/non-functional experience specifically on the Microsoft platform including SQL Server (SSIS, SSRS, SSAS), and/or .NET, SharePoint 2007/2010
• Experience with business intelligence (Enterprise Reporting, Analytics and Data Warehousing)
• Experience in client-facing roles within blue chip organizations
• Work experience in a professional services industry, preferred
• Work experience in a global role, preferred
• Proven IT delivery background with experience across the systems development life cycle with experience in all program/project phases – plan, initiate, elaborate, design, build, test, implement.
• Strong team working skills across matrixed client, supplier and geographically dispersed virtual teams
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills (includes negotiation)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills – must be able to communicate fluently in English both verbally and in writing
• Microsoft certification preferred
• National and international travel may be required
Overview of responsibilities:
Successfully deliver technical solutions within multi-million dollar, multi-year global Business Intelligence programs for the IT Services organization through:
• Supporting the Application Engineering Technical Lead in the overall technical delivery of Business Intelligence programs and projects
• Planning and managing delivery of all application engineering activities for assigned sub-team(s) including working closely with off-shore 3rd party vendors to deliver projects to time, cost and quality requirements primarily on the Microsoft technology platform
• Ensuring that application engineering and architecture standards are met as prescribed by IT Services through the effective implementation or use of approved processes, methodologies and deliverables primarily based upon the Microsoft Business Intelligence technology platform
• Researching and evaluating alternative technical solutions with the Application Architecture team and proposing the most efficient and cost-effective solution while minimizing risk to the project and firm
• Develop and maintain strong working relationships with other IT Service groups and customers to expedite delivery of IT solutions
• Provide technical guidance and coaching and expertise to team members, colleagues and/or customers
Assisting in the broader development of application engineering policies, standards and procedures
Analytical/Decision Making Responsibilities:
• Make the appropriate decisions and approvals in order to support the successful delivery of multi-million dollar global business intelligence programs
• Monitor and manage the sub-team application engineering baseline to ensure activities are occurring as planned - scope, budget and schedule and managing variances
• Proactively identify risks, issues and problems on programs/projects – supporting the team in developing risk management and issue management plans
• Ability to clearly articulate problems and proposed options and solutions and apply judgment in implementing application engineering methodologies, processes and practices to ensure security, resilience, maintainability and quality of Business Intelligence solutions
• Ability to quickly adapt to changing requirements and customer demands
• Ability to prioritize personal and team workloads to best meet organizational objectives
Analytical skills and problem solving skills needed to manage multiple factors on a program/project simultaneously
Supervision Responsibilities:
• Not leading but can with specific items. Development is the focus
