Primary Purpose:
Responsible for the design, procurement and installation of company network infrastructure through the maintenance of network security, evaluation, testing and recommendation of new network technologies and maintenance of all local and wide area networks (LAN/WAN) to ensure efficient network operations.
Key Accountabilities:
• Perform network design and equipment procurement including the configuration and deployment of Cisco routers, switches, firewalls, VPN profiles, load balancers and WLAN devices.
• Identify network solutions through constant interfacing with appropriate management levels, clients and vendors to ensure a cost effective and efficient infrastructure environment is available to provide essential communications for company operations.
• Provide network infrastructure support by troubleshooting and providing maintenance and upgrades.
• Support network security efforts and proactive network monitoring.
• Support Help Desk and other Information Systems team members when issues arise or a major problem is suspected.
• Minimize productivity loss caused by technology outages and provide necessary infrastructure to company to meet the business needs.
• Research and acquire necessary tools and processes to identify troublesome trends and develop long-range plans designed to resolve network problems and prevent them from recurring.
• Maintain high service levels for the user community and establish a method to easily compare the installation performance against established performance objectives.
• Develop and implement infrastructure test procedures.
• Participate in and lead various IT projects intended to continually improve/upgrade the network infrastructure.
• Assist in developing strategic plans for LAN/WAN environments as well as implementing LAN/WAN support procedures and guidelines.
• Assist in the management of outside vendors, consultants, and associates. This includes participating in vendor and consultant selections as well as guiding consultant activities.
• Provide after hours (on call) support as needed on a regular rotation.
Experience:
• Significant LAN/WAN experience is required, including knowledge in the following:
o Extensive Desktop, Operating Systems and Windows Servers
o Network design and monitoring including: MPLS, Frame Relay, Broadband DSL/Cable, VSAT, T1, and PRI circuits.
o Cisco Series routers, switches, firewalls, VPN concentrators, wireless bridges and wireless access devices. TCP/IP, OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, IRDP, HSRP, and SNMP protocols. CAT 5e/6 and fiber optic network cabling.
o Network Management/Monitoring Tools including: Cisco Works LMS and QPM, Cisco Security Manager, Fluke Networks OptiView Network Analyzer/Workgroup Analyzer/Reporter Analyzer, Fluke Networks Console/Protocol Expert Software, NAI Sniffer Pro Appliance, WebSense Enterprise Server, Solar Winds, TFTP/FTP servers, Visual Networks UpTime
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience with enterprise networks, communications service provider technologies and circuit installations are required.
Other skills, attributes and abilities:
• The successful party must have excellent problem-solving and project management skills, with the ability to see a project through to completion, both large and small, in a cross-functional environment. Additionally, one must have effective communication skills (both written and oral) with a broad base of end users and multiple management layers. One must also have good interpersonal skills coupled with a strong sense of customer service. The position also requires good judgment and analytical skills with strong follow-up and organizational skills.
• Must be willing to provide on call assistance during off work hours.
• Occasional travel may be required.
Education:
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, related discipline or equivalent experience required
