IT Storage Management Senior Software Advisor, PA

Major Purpose:

 

Mainframe Storage Management, includes but is not limited to Monitoring, adding, modifying mainframe storage to avoid storage problems. Maintain/modify storage related programs to add or remove storage as required. Assist MVS Staff with new releases of Operating Systems, test and upgrade Mainframe Storage products to comply with new requirements. Create and maintain System Catalog’s, etc. Always looking for ways to improve the Storage Management Customer Support effort.

 

Customer Support/Batch support: includes problem solving of job(s), programs, datasets, etc. This might include contacting vendors and working with program developers to correct situations that cause jobs to abend or provide un desired results. Also assist the customer with any Storage related issues.

 

Software Installation involves maintaining current releases of software and or installing new releases, testing, debugging, contacting vendors with problems and providing customers with support of these products.

 

Mainframe Disaster Recovery: Involves maintaining current DR recovery procedures and participating in the planning and execution of recovery plans.

 

Major Responsibilities:

 

·         Maintain required levels of free space for Storage Pools. This requires monitoring the pools on a daily basis using manual and automated tools. Also modifying DFSMS and or DIF code to add or modify pools. 20%

·         Ongoing Customer Support for any Mainframe issue. This includes Batch, Online and Software support.  This involves contacting Vendors and providing them with proper information to resolve the problem. Restoring corrupt datasets, assisting with dataset creation, etc.  30%

·         Install and Maintain Mainframe Software. This includes debugging problems, upgrading to new releases, testing and implementing into a production environment.  20%

·         DFHSM support, maintenance and reporting: Install and test new versions as required. Maintain existing release and provide support for any reported problems or concerns. Monitor Control datasets and tape usage and perform maintenance as required. Prepare reports as requested by management 5%

·         DR Support. SRDF support from Bethlehem to Pittsfield. Maintain current DR Procedures and participate in planning and execution of recovery plans. 10%

·         Attend Meetings as necessary. This might be with customers, vendors, staff, etc. Provide input and solutions as necessary 5%

·         Work with MVS Staff to Install, test, and implement new Operating Systems. This includes providing new and or additional storage, Create datasets necessary to support new operating systems such as Page datasets, Catalogs, Spool Volumes, MVS Volumes, etc. Assist in testing Software tools and upgrade as needed. 10%

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

 

·         Technical Expertise, requires a considerable amount of experience with Storage Subsystems Technology, its recovery methods and techniques.

 

·         Business and Industry Knowledge, requires keeping up to date with current IT and Storage procedures and Technology.

 

·         Interpersonal Skills: Must be a Team Player who can provide our customers with quality support services. Must be willing to help in any situation to resolve a problem or service as requested.

 

·         Project Management:  Requires being  able to work alone and make decisions without assistance and completing project assignments on time.

 

·         Must have experience with and in-depth knowledge of Enterprise Architecture, PMO, SLC change management Documentation, reporting, etc.

Education/Experience:

 

Minimum HS Diploma with 5 to 7years experience working with Mainframe Storage and Software required for Senior Level Position. A college degree is preferred
